In this talk I will discuss the issue of gender equality plans, in the scope of academic institutions with specific reference of my experience in an Italian university. I will try to highlight the motivations and needs , the whys, and which concrete plans can be adopted to respond to those needs, the what. I will discuss also the frictions (social, legal and cultural) that oppose at various levels to an effective implementation of gender equality actions plan.
